Below are a few videos of some of my favorite songs that celebrate the resurrection of our Savior. They are performed by Keith Green and Don Francisco.
I hope they minister to you too. For some, they will bring back rich memories of a special time in Christian music.
Keith Green was a powerful part of the Jesus Movement in the 1970's. Along with two of his children, he was killed in a plane crash at 28 years old . He was full of much conviction and had a passion for telling others about Jesus. You can learn more about his ministry here .
Don Francisco was also a strong voice in the Christian music community during the 70's & 80's. He and his wife, Mary (from Wendy & Mary) still minister today.
Don Francisco's music has always focused on the forgiveness of a loving God. Don is known worldwide for his ballads written from the point of view of Bible characters who were surprised by God's grace. His best known song, "He's Alive", is written from the point of view of Peter just after the crucifixion of Jesus. "Too Small A Price" is another powerful song written from the point of view of the thief on the cross who slowly comes to realize that he is being crucified next to the Messiah.
This song has two parts. The first is the story of the thief as mentioned above. The second part is what is happening with the saints, during the 3 days that Jesus' body is in the tomb.
It is so easy to be distracted by all the scary unrest in the world. It can be difficult to find peace at times, looking at the unstable world situations, as our children are coming of age or will be in the near future. Have I equipped them to navigate this mess? Do I feel equipped? Not really. The only source of peace is to trust in the Lord and His sovereignty. I know the Lord is on His throne, regardless of it all. Everything passes through His hand. The world stage is not unknown to Him nor is it a surprise. This is a comfort in times of uncertainty. And I am reminded that I am to continually prepare my heart and be on watch for His coming.
I was reading and thinking of the Church and end times and it reminded me of a beautiful song that my dear friend sang often (when we were young and would take guitars to the beach and watch the sunset and laugh and chat and sing to the Lord.) It is a song by Jamie Owens Collins called New Jerusalem. It is a beautiful word picture of the Bride of Christ, waiting and watching and ready to meet her bridegroom, in the midst of the world chaos, knowing that He will come for her.
Listen carefully to the words. Enjoy and be encouraged.
I enjoy "Irish-ness", especially the music. St. Patrick's Day always brings out the festive Irish emphasis everywhere we go, and I kinda enjoy that. But I also think it is important to offer our kids a look at the history of the day, and point to a different emphasis... Jesus and the spreading of the Gospel. While I don't know a whole lot about this "missionary", St. Patrick, and don't want to get into a discussion on church history or doctrine, I do appreciate these words below, credited to St. Patrick. I have also heard my friend (you know who you are), sing this, and it is just so pretty.
By the way, I learned recently that St. Patrick's Day, March 17, is believed to be the day of his death. I knew he wasn't Irish, but read that his parents were Roman! (Didn't know that... a little trivia for ya!) Anyway, enjoy this lovely writing, as we think of Christ on St. Patrick's Day.
“Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.” ― St. Patrick
A sobering reminder. Beautiful song, incredible message. Merry Christmas. (Click on the little box on the bottom right to expand and watch in full screen.)
For the past several years I have included the lyrics of this "poem" in my CHEE
Christmas newsletter. Today I received this
video of it being done by homeschool moms, and it is quite cute. You really
must take a moment and watch. Enjoy!
Valentine's Day is a day to show those around us that we love them, and to show them in a special way. ( Of coures, our Lord demonstrated the PERFECT way and the PERFECT love, by His death on the cross!). Our family enjoys homemade valentines, and occasionally flowers and treats make their way into the celebration. While we appreciate any gesture of love from each other on this and any day, we are inspired and challenged by God's Word to show our love EVERY day, according to His description of what that looks like (and it really has nothing to do with flowers and chocolates!). This song is a beautiful definition of LOVE... taken from scripture. I first heard this song when my dear friend sang it at church about 35 years ago. And I still sing it in my kitchen as I do dishes, prepare meals, etc. I hope you are inspired too.
This is a song by Don Fransisco, Too Small A Price. It is a way favorite of mine (and many others!). Since I mentioned his gift of story telling in a previous post, I thought you might enjoy hearing him. Many of his songs are from the perspective of the person in the Scriptural account. For instance, this story is told from the voice of the thief on the cross next to Jesus. There are two parts to it. The first part ends and there is a short transition on the guitar, and the second part picks up as the man goes with Jesus into paradise. I know it is long ( almost 10 minutes), but it is so worth it. Another "trademark" of his is that he often ends a song in a chorus of worship. This is just a beautiful telling of the thief's salvation. Be blessed. (That is his wife Wendy with him.)
GoD and DoG is a sweet, simple and original song by Wendy Fransisco. She wrote, illustrated and animated this song. Wendy is the wife of Don Fransisco, the Christian music artist (very well known in the 1980's), and she was half of the singing group, Wendy & Mary. Mary Rice Hopkins was the other half. : ) The music of the Fransiscos has blessed my life and ministered to me deeply over the last 30 years. I went to my first music concert at a high school in Long Beach, CA, where I listened to Don Fransisco share his amazing testimony and minister in music. Both Don and Wendy are incredibly gifted at putting scripture stories and Bible passages to music. Their storytelling through music is amazing. This particular song is a litte more simple, but still special (especially to someone who really loves God... and dogs). Enjoy.
