Happy New Year! 2012

Just One Request

Dear Master for this coming year
Just one request I bring:
I do not pray for happiness,
Or any earthly thing—
I do not ask to understand
The way Thou leadest me,
But this I ask: Teach me to do
The thing that pleaseth Thee.

I want to know Thy guiding voice,
To walk with Thee each day.
Dear Master make me swift to hear
And ready to obey.
And thus the year I now begin
A happy year will be—
If I am seeking just to do
The thing that pleaseth Thee.

Times Tales DVD

Anyone else out there have a student who struggles to get those multiplication math facts memorized?   I am teaching my third child, and this is the first one who has just had a block when it comes to remembering the facts we drill every day.  We have worked through many methods... speed drills, flash cards, writing out facts, math games, etc.  Still, the facts just do not seem to stick.  I read about Times Tales and decided we were at the point where we needed to do something very different.
I have to admit that I was a little skeptical, but I really didn't know what else to do to help her.  Without those math facts memorized, she hits a wall in almost every math lesson, which is discouraging in a big way.   Since we were already taking a Christmas break from our regular lessons, I used these last 2 weeks to work through the DVD.  We have only completed part 1, and I am amazed at how quickly she has learned these math facts!   And it is sticking, day after day, as I have had her work through them each day for the past week.  She is amazed as well, and very encouraged.   What a wonderful tool this dvd program has been.  I would encourage you to check out their website and read more about the program.  You can learn more and purchase the program at .
